About Dr. Barrett
Dr. Andrew Barrett is a fellowship-trained orthopedic sports medicine surgeon dedicated to helping patients return to the activities they love. He specializes in both surgical and nonsurgical treatments for sports-related injuries and conditions affecting the hip, knee, and shoulder. His expertise includes knee ligament reconstruction, rotator cuff repair, cartilage restoration, and arthroscopic surgery of the knee and shoulder. He is also an expert in joint replacement procedures of the knee, hip, and shoulder. During his training, Dr. Barrett worked with numerous collegiate and professional athletic teams, including the Miami HEAT, the Miami Dolphins, and the Inter Miami CF soccer team as well as St. Thomas University and the men and women’s basketball teams at Florida International University. With extensive experience working with athletes, he brings in-depth understanding of sports performance and recovery to his practice. His approach to care is rooted in listening, teamwork, and encouragement, ensuring that each patient feels supported throughout their journey.
Dr. Barrett completed his Doctor of Medicine degree at Florida Atlantic University Schmidt College of Medicine in Boca Raton, Florida. He went on to complete his orthopedic surgery residency at UPMC Hamot in Erie, Pennsylvania, followed by a fellowship in orthopedic research at Stanford Medicine in Palo Alto, California. Dr. Barrett continued his training with an additional fellowship in sports medicine at Baptist Health in Coral Gables, Florida. He is an active member of the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association, and the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine.
With his advanced training and dedication to compassionate care, Dr. Barrett finds the greatest reward in helping patients achieve milestones they once thought were out of reach—whether that means walking without pain or returning to their favorite sport.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Barrett enjoys spending time with his wife and children, playing and watching all sports, and collecting sneakers. He is also a former Eagle Scout, an experience that shaped his values of dedication, perseverance, and service.
